Job Information

The Janitor is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, orderly and secure school environment. Working under the general direction of the Vice-Principal, the position provides routine custodial services to support learning, school operations and community activities.

Key Responsibilities

Clean and maintain classrooms, offices, common areas, washrooms and other school facilities.

Operate janitorial equipment and use cleaning products safely and effectively.

Maintain a clean, safe, orderly and secure environment throughout the assigned shift.

Complete routine custodial tasks in accordance with established procedures and schedules.

Respond appropriately to students, staff and community members using school facilities.

Provide day-to-day directions and training to a Casual or replacement Janitors, as required.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

KEY QAULIFICATIONS

Completion of Grade 8.

Six (6) months of related custodial or janitorial experience.

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and workplace safety procedures.

Ability to safely use cleaning products and janitorial equipment.

Ability to work respectfully with students, staff and community members.

Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, including lifting up to 75 lbs.

Working Conditions

The position requires shift work, including working outside regular daytime hours.

Work is performed in a school environment with regular interaction with students, staff and community members.

The work is physically active and requires standing, walking, bending, lifting and operating janitorial equipment.

The position may involve exposure to cleaning products and routine school maintenance conditions.

The salary range for this position is from $29.22 per hour to $34.91 per hour (approximately $60,777.60 - $72,612.80) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $5,536.
