June 2026 Job Market Snapshot for Western Canada

J JobAds Insights · July 7, 2026

June 2026 was the busiest month we have tracked. JobAds.ca ingested 13,004 new postings across Western Canada, up 17 percent from May, and for the first time the snapshot covers five jurisdictions: Saskatchewan, Alberta, the Northwest Territories, Yukon, and Manitoba (new this month).

Every chart on this page is generated live from our database, filtered to postings that included a salary or hourly rate. Listings without compensation info were excluded so you are looking at apples-to-apples wage data only. 9,869 of the 13,004 June postings (about 76 percent) included a wage, tracking closely with the May share.

What This Tells Us

A few things stood out in the June data:

  • Saskatchewan pushed further ahead on posting volume. SK accounted for 8,936 postings (69 percent of the regional total), Alberta for 3,797 (29 percent), and the three smaller feeds contributed the rest: Manitoba came online mid-month with 105 postings, Northwest Territories added 103, and Yukon posted 62. Saskatchewan Health Authority alone posted 3,442 jobs (up from 2,807 in May), more than a quarter of everything on the platform this month.
  • Healthcare and food service kept the top spots. Healthcare-Nursing led categories at 1,330 postings, followed by Food Service (963), Management (882), Management and Supervisory (702), Healthcare Support (623), Transportation (398), and Education and Teaching (309). Nursing volume grew 20 percent month over month.
  • The wage distribution shifted slightly toward the middle. Hourly postings sat in three concentrated bands: 4,313 in the $15 to $25 range, 1,439 in the $25 to $35 range, and 3,473 in the $35 to $50 range, with a further 373 above $50 per hour. The upper band is heavy on healthcare specialists, senior trades, and management. The dip in the $25 to $35 band reflects fewer mid-career trade and admin postings than in May.
  • Alberta paid a touch more on average again. Average hourly across June postings was $30.83 in Alberta versus $29.97 in Saskatchewan, with annualized averages of $64,132 and $62,330 respectively. Yukon and Northwest Territories postings (all annual-only government roles) averaged $89,243 and $105,824, reflecting the cost-of-living adjustments built into northern pay grids.
  • City share concentrates in the big four. Saskatoon (1,690), Regina (1,515), Edmonton (1,083), and Calgary (898) absorbed roughly 40 percent of June postings between them. Outside the big four, Prince Albert (389), Yorkton (351), Moose Jaw (289), and North Battleford (264) carried steady weekly volume. Winnipeg entered the mix for the first time as Manitoba coverage came online.
  • The highest single postings tied at $850,000 per year. An Obstetrician-Gynecologist role at RX Square Medical Clinic and a Dermatologist role at Skin Physicians (both Alberta) shared the top spot, followed by a General Surgeon at $800,000 and an Anesthesiologist at $700,000. Healthcare physician roles consistently lead the high end of the distribution.

Bottom Line

If you are job hunting in Western Canada right now, June kept the trend going: real, paid work being posted every day across five jurisdictions, with volume tilting further toward Saskatchewan and healthcare in particular. The addition of Manitoba means JobAds.ca now covers the entire Western Canadian public-sector footprint plus the Alberta and Saskatchewan private-sector feeds, so a single search reaches every province from the Ontario border to the Yukon.
