About this role

This is to fill one (1) full-time term (anticipatory permanent) position, working 75 hours bi-weekly until March 31, 2028. Temporary Assignments will be considered.

The Land Planning Branch collaborates with First Nations, Yukon communities and other government agencies to manage land use in a sustainable and orderly way.

The Land and Resource Planner is a key role in the Land Planning Branch. This position is responsible for leading and coordinating regional and community land use planning and zoning initiatives throughout the territory. This work includes collaborating with First Nations, communities, and committees to prepare and present land use plans, zoning, and agreements; leading public consultations; conducting policy and planning research including analyzing complex land use planning and resource issues; and preparing and presenting options and recommendations to senior management. This position also works with other branches and departments to ensure the Government of Yukon issues and interests are addressed in land and resource planning.

The position also participates in the development and maintenance of a legislative, regulatory and policy framework which governs land use and orderly development in Yukon.

Essential Qualifications

  • Degree in land use, community planning, environmental planning, geography, environmental science, ecology or a related field
  • Experience managing land planning projects such as local area plans, regional land use plans, or plans of a similar scope and complexity
  • Experience leading consultations and working with the public, municipalities, and/or communities
  • Experience in the application of Canadian planning and zoning law would be an asset
  • Experience collaborating with First Nation governments on the implementation of First Nation Final Agreements and Self-Government Agreements would be an asset
  • Experience preparing briefings for senior leadership would be an asset

Candidates who have post-secondary education combined with significant experience in the above-mentioned demonstrated abilities may be equally considered.
