Disability Accommodation Consultant

This is for a term anticipatory perm, working 75 hours bi-weekly.

The opportunity…

Yukon government departments, corporations and the unions have worked in partnership to develop and implement a corporate disability management program that encompasses early identification and referral to YG disability management services, processes and training for managing employees with disabilities and meeting their accommodation needs, and tracking and monitoring processes for continuous quality improvement. Our guiding principles to achieve this include: dignity, individuality, participation, confidentiality and good faith.

As part of a central team, you will lead case management services to fulfill Yukon government’s legal duty as an employer to accommodate employees with injuries, illness or disabilities. You will work directly with employees, HR and union representatives, labour relations partners and supervisors to collect information, make recommendations, support interventions and give advice. You will bring a solid subject matter foundation in a field such as health, labour relations or human resources. Being successful in this role requires judgement to apply legal requirements and principles to individual circumstances. This role works within parameters set by human rights legislation, collective agreements, Yukon government’s Disability Management and Accommodation policy and guidelines.

Essential Qualifications

• Completion of post-secondary education in disability management, return to work services, a health discipline, psychology, or social work or a related field.
• Substantial experience managing complex cases, including involving multiple stakeholders, competing priorities, sensitive information, and requiring complex problem-solving.
• Experience managing disability management, workplace accommodation, and return-to-work cases on behalf of an employer, is considered an asset.
• Certification as a Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP), Certified Return to Work Coordinator (CRTWC), or an equivalent professional designation is considered an asset.
• Experience interpreting and applying legislation, collective agreements, policies, and procedures to provide advice, guidance, and recommendations within a unionized work environment is considered an asset.

Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed below may be equally considered.
