The Executive Council Office is the centre of excellence for the Government of Yukon. We are leaders in the modernization of government standards and processes.

We provide central strategic advice to advance government priorities through policy development, communications, intergovernmental relations, Indigenous relations, major project management, youth initiatives, and by supporting the Water Board and the Commissioner’s Office. The department also provides direct support to the Premier and Cabinet.

The opportunity…

The Senior Consultation Advisor plays a key role in ensuring consistency of approach across YG on consultation matters. The position provides advice, analysis, training and assistance to staff across government in respect of consultation and accommodation processes with Yukon First Nations and transboundary Indigenous governments and groups arising from existing and emerging legal obligations, as well as those arising from government policy imperatives. The position is responsible for working with interdepartmental teams, supporting the implementation of consultation plans and protocols, and assisting with the development and implementation of innovative solutions and tools such as record management systems and spatial data mapping applications that support staff in adequately discharging the government’s consultation obligations.

  • Degree in Public Policy/Administration, Law, Political, Social or Resource Science, or other related discipline,
  • Experience participating in consultation processes and expertise regarding the legal, policy and practical requirements of discharging consultation obligations with Indigenous governments and groups​​​,
  • Considerable experience analyzing and interpreting materials related to Aboriginal rights, including legal opinions, judgments, legislation, policies, treaties, self-government agreements and other agreements with Yukon First Nations and transboundary Indigenous governments and groups,
  • Considerable experience with program and project coordination, tracking commitments and issues, managing competing priorities and deadlines, and supporting planning and program delivery,
  • Experience working with or interpreting Yukon First Nation Final and Self-Government Agreements will be considered an asset.

Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be equally considered.

Job requirements

This position may occasionally travel (1-2 times outside the Yukon and up to 15 times within the Yukon annually), for purposes of consultation, negotiations, community visits and meetings etc., by plane and/or vehicle.

This position is in Whitehorse, Yukon, and requires you to work in the office.
