The Opportunity

We are looking for a Director to lead the Diversity and Inclusion Branch.

Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, People & Culture, you will help shape a public service that reflects and serves the diverse communities of the Yukon. You will lead work that advances equity, diversity, inclusion, belonging, cultural safety, accessibility, and reconciliation across government.

In this role, you will lead a team of dedicated professionals; build strong relationships with senior leaders, employees, Yukon First Nation governments, Indigenous organizations, and community partners; provide leadership on policies, programs, and initiatives that support inclusion and belonging; oversee branch operations, strategic planning, and budgets; and help create meaningful and lasting organizational change.

This role supports important government commitments, including Chapter 22 of the Umbrella Final Agreement and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action. Your work will help strengthen relationships, advance reconciliation, and make the Yukon public service a welcoming place for everyone.

As a member of the Public Service Commission Senior Management Team, you will play an important role in shaping the future of the Yukon public service.

Essential Qualifications

• Experience leading change management and collaborating with clients, external partners and external service providers in relation to diversity and inclusion related programs.
• Experience managing human and financial resources and leading and coaching cross-functional teams.
• Considerable experience providing corporate oversight and direction in the implementation and execution of equity, diversity and inclusion programs, policies, and frameworks. Experience in the public sector or with Yukon First Nation governments or other Indigenous organizations will be considered an asset.
• A degree in public administration, business administration, human resources or related field, will be considered an asset.

Candidates who have education, training, and/or lived experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be considered.

• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Yukon First Nation and Indigenous lived experience and a commitment to support truth and reconciliation with Yukon First Nation and Indigenous peoples.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with employees, colleagues, leaders, Yukon First Nation governments, Indigenous organizations, and community partners.
• Build trust and bring people together around a common goal.
• Communicate clearly, respectfully and effectively with people from different backgrounds and world views.
• Handle sensitive situations with good judgement, professionalism, confidentiality, and empathy.
• Keep up to date on issues related to equity, diversity, inclusion, human rights, accessibility, psychological safety, and reconciliation.
• Work respectfully with people from different cultures and perspectives and be open to learning from others.
• Adapt to change positively and help others navigate new ways of working.
