Community Safety Officer

There are 2 permanent, full-time positions with Thunderchild First Nation. Reporting to the Chief of Police, this position is responsible for: - Ensuring public awareness and enforcement of all Thunderchild First Nation bylaws and authorized provincial statutes. - Enforcing all Municipal and Provincial Bylaws. - Patrolling within Thunderchild First Nation limits. - Issuing verbal warnings, written warnings, and violation tickets as required. - Administering written communication, including court packages and violation ticket processing. - Addressing complaints, concerns, and questions in regard to Municipal Bylaw infractions.

In addition to the listed Acts, duties will also include:

Attend not in progress property offence calls for service (section 334(b) and 430(1) of the Criminal Code for the purpose of receiving information, evaluating and liaising with the police agency of the jurisdiction as required

Search and rescue

Crime and Emergency Scene Security; or

Service of legal documents - when requesting additional authorization, documents of approved training programs will be provided.

Investigation of complaint files provided by local RCMP detachment.

Respond to motor vehicle accidents, as required

Provide traffic control at motor vehicle accidents, parades, or community events

Respond to persons posing a safety threat

Arrest and/or detain persons in contravention of Provincial Statutes

Prepare court documents and packages.

Prepare Notice of Contraventions, Municipal Orders, and processes for serving municipal by-law infractions

Take statements from residents and/or witnesses on low-risk criminal code matters if requested by the Police and authorized per the Operating Agreement

Regular reporting and duties as mandated by The Police Act.
