Join Stanton Territorial Hospital's Microbiology team in Yellowknife and play a key role in supporting patient care and public health across the Northwest Territories. As a Medical Laboratory Technologist I, you will use advanced laboratory techniques and technology to identify infectious diseases, provide critical diagnostic information, and help healthcare professionals make informed treatment decisions in a dynamic and rewarding healthcare environment
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, culture, analyze, and interpret a variety of biological samples.
- Operate complex laboratory instrumentation and perform manual microbiological testing.
- Verify and release accurate patient results through the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Perform quality control, proficiency testing, equipment calibration, and corrective actions as required
- Troubleshoot laboratory equipment and perform routine preventative maintenance
- Provide technical guidance and education to laboratory staff and healthcare professionals.
- Deliver exceptional customer service to patients, healthcare providers, and community partners.
Key Qualifications
- Completion of a recognized Medical Laboratory Technology Program at a minimum of a diploma or degree level from an accredited Canadian Post-Secondary Institution.
- Relevant experience in a microbiology laboratory within the past five (5) years.
- Internationally educated Medical Laboratory Technologists must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience working as a Medical Laboratory Technologist in a Canadian hospital microbiology laboratory.
Additional Requirements
- Applicants must be registered with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science at the General Registered Technologist designation. New graduates waiting to write their certification examination will be considered however; registration must be achieved prior to beginning employment with Laboratory Services. Registration must be maintained throughout the period of employment with Laboratory Services.

Labour Market Supplement
The successful incumbent will receive a $10,000 supplement upon hire and an additional $10,000 supplement after completion of 12 months of continuous employment contingent on remaining employed in an eligible position for a further 12 months. This is a taxable benefit and will be subject to applicable deductions.
The Labour Market Supplement is in effect for positions staffed before September 30, 2026.
Shift Work
This position involves a Rotating/Irregular Shift Schedule which may change due to operational requirements.

The salary range for this position is from $49.68 per hour to $59.35 per hour (approximately $96,876 - $115,733.) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,700.
