Three courses including Health, Safety and Nutrition, Child Guidance 1, and Dynamics of Play 1. This is the minimum to work 65+ hours per month in a licensed centre. Can be completed online.
Completing Year One of the Diploma qualifies you for Ministry ECE Level II certification. Finishing the full two-year Diploma qualifies you for Level III, which is required to be a centre director in Saskatchewan. The older standalone Level II Certificate at Sask Polytech is being phased out and replaced by this stacked Diploma path.
The equivalent Alberta pathways. If you train in Alberta, your credential is portable to Saskatchewan and most other provinces.
Alberta certifies ECEs at three levels (Level 1, 2, and 3, formerly Child Development Assistant, Worker, and Supervisor). Level 1 needs 45 hours of approved ELCC coursework. Levels 2 and 3 need progressively more credit, with Level 3 requiring a two-year ECE diploma. Program Supervisors in licensed day care must hold Level 3.
NorQuest (Edmonton), Bow Valley (Calgary), Lethbridge Polytechnic, and SAIT all offer Early Learning and Child Care diploma programs accepted toward Alberta ECE Level 3 certification.

The Ministry of Education issues Saskatchewan ECE certification at Levels I, II, and III. You apply with your school transcripts; the Ministry assesses and issues your certificate. ECE certification is not a regulatory college (no annual fee), but licensed childcare centres are required by the Child Care Regulations to staff each level role accordingly.
