Seven Fires Shelter Team Lead

Position Overview

The Shelter Team Lead oversees the daily operations of the shelter program, supports staff, and ensures a safe, respectful environment for guests. This leadership role requires strong communication skills, calm decision-making, and a commitment to trauma-informed, harm-reduction, and culturally safe practices. The Shelter Supervisor reports to the Manager of Community Housing and Shelter Services.

Provide on-site supervision to shelter staff and volunteers.

Ensure shelter operations run smoothly and safely during each shift.

Support staff with guidance, coaching, and problem-solving.

Oversee supply management, facility needs, and daily setup/takedown.

Ensure shelter policies are followed respectfully, fairly, and consistently.

Schedule staff and respond appropriately when staff call in (for example: finding coverage for the shift or working the shift).

Respond to escalating situations using de-escalation, harm reduction, and trauma-informed practices.

Lead emergency responses including medical concerns and crisis interventions.

Maintain a calm, grounded presence during stressful situations.

Review and complete incident reports, shift logs, and attendance records.

Communicate important updates to the Program Manager and team.

Support scheduling, staffing, and shift coverage as require

Qualifications

Experience supervising teams in shelter, outreach, social services, or community programs.

Must hold First Aid/CPR. Must have experience with drug overdoses and using naloxone.

Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, histories, and community dynamics.

Excellent communication, leadership, and conflict resolution skills.

Ability to stay calm and grounded during crisis situations.

Lived experience is respected and considered an asset.
