Locomotive Engineer

Wheatland Express is seeking an experienced Locomotive Engineer to support operations of the Wheatland Express excursion train based in Wakaw, Saskatchewan. This position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the locomotives during passenger excursions.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Locomotive Engineer interested in seasonal, casual work.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate locomotives during Wheatland Express excursion trains.
• Work closely with the Conductor and onboard crew to ensure safe and efficient train operations.
• Perform required pre-trip locomotive inspections.
• Maintain effective radio communication with crew members.
• Maintain strict adherence to operating rules, operating procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Maintain a professional and safety-focused environment while operating around passengers, employees, volunteers, and the public.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Locomotive Engineer is required.
• Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to identify basic mechanical issues and support troubleshooting efforts.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
• Effective radio communication skills.
• Ability to work safely with minimal supervision.
• Professional and dependable, with an understanding of the additional responsibilities associated with passenger train operations.
• Physically capable of climbing equipment, walking on uneven surfaces, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Applicants are required to hold a valid driver's licence.
• Employment is conditional upon successfully passing the required CROR rules examination and railway medical.
