Director of Finance

Position Summary

The Director of Finance is Zagime Anishinabeks senior financial leader, reporting to the Executive Director and accountable to Chief and Council and Treasury Board. The position provides strategic and operational financial leadership, ensuring sound stewardship of organizational assets, regulatory compliance, risk management, and sustainable achievement of strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Participate in senior management and strategic planning, providing financial guidance and reporting on strategic plan implementation.

Oversee fiscal integrity, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, internal controls, procurement, and financial systems.

Advise Chief and Council and Treasury Board on financial matters, policies, risks, asset management, and opportunities for improvement.

Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, regulations, financial policies, funding requirements, and audit recommendations.

Review and improve the Chart of Accounts, financial reporting, approval processes, signing authorities, and internal controls.

Identify, assess, manage, and mitigate financial and organizational risks.

Oversee financial reporting obligations for programs and services and provide guidance to management on financial effectiveness and efficiency.

Develop and maintain effective relationships with government departments, funders, auditors, financial institutions, regulators, suppliers, boards, committees, and organizational entities.

Oversee Finance, Administration, and Human Resources, including staff direction, training, coaching, performance management, and confidentiality.

Participate in community engagement, including audit and budget presentations, and provide leadership support across the organization as required.

Qualifications & Skills

University degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.

10+ years of financial leadership experience.
