About this role
The Director of Economic and Community Development leads long-term Economic viability, community growth, land use planning, development services, and permitting. This foundational role integrates economic growth, investment attraction, and municipal planning to position the City for development and business expansion.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide strategic leadership, staff supervision, budget oversight, and an operational direction for a multidisciplinary team across planning, economic development, permitting, and building services
- Serve as senior strategist for economic growth, expanding the tax base, advancing downtown revitalization, supporting business retention and attracting private capital
- Promote the City to investors and developers, business partnerships and lead high-level negotiations
- Lead land use planning, OCP administration, zoning bylaws, subdivision approvals, and building inspection in compliance with provincial legislation
- Collaborate across departments and levels of government to secure funding aligned with strategic priorities
- Act as senior representative in public consultations, council reporting, media inquiries, and Municipal Board hearings
QUALIFICATIONS
- University degree in Economic Development, Urban Planning, Business Administration, Public Administration, Commerce, Geography, Engineering, Community Development, or related discipline. Masters degree an asset
- 10 years of progressive management experience, preferably municipal
- MCIP and RPP membership considered an asset
- Class 5 Drivers License and personal vehicle
- Thorough knowledge of the Planning and Development Act, Zoning Bylaws, OCP and land development processes
- Proven track record in strategic foresight, market analysis, financial oversight and complex issue resolution

Compensation Details
$140,904-$176,148 annually
