About this role
A Welder Apprentice involves assisting experienced welders, learning to join and repair metal by performing tasks like cutting, grinding, fitting, and basic welding under supervision, reading blueprints, maintaining equipment, and strictly following safety protocols to develop skills for certification. Key responsibilities include preparing materials, setting up machinery, performing physical tasks, inspecting work, and ensuring quality while mastering various welding processes (SMAW, GMAW, etc.).
Support Senior Welders: Assist with cutting, grinding, fitting, and welding operations, learning techniques and processes.
Material & Equipment Prep: Prepare metal surfaces, set up welding machines (spot, arc, gas), and prepare materials for welding.
Perform Basic Welding: Execute fundamental welding tasks under supervision as skills develop.
Blueprint Interpretation: Read and understand engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
Safety Compliance: Strictly follow all safety guidelines, procedures, and participate in safety training.
Maintenance: Clean and maintain welding equipment, tools, and work areas.
Quality Control: Inspect completed welds for structural soundness and adherence to standards.
Physical Tasks
Handle heavy lifting, bending, and other physically demanding work.
NOTE: This is a full-time, onsite, permanent position. You must be legally able to work in Canada. The ability to commute or live in the Battlefords area is a pre-requisite
