About this role
Red Pheasant Cree Nation (RPCN) recognizes the value of an Aboriginal Diabetes Initiative (ADI) Worker. This role will be under the direction and supervision of the Health Director and Community Health Nurse, working to develop, implement, and coordinate programming for community members living on-reserve. This position is responsible for promoting healthy life choices using a community development and population health framework.
Responsibilities
A yearly work plan will be developed, with goals and activities listed, and a projected budget.
Coordinate meetings among identified staff to assist with education and/or home visitations.
Participate in follow-up and transition activities involving on-reserve membership.
Carry out health promotion programs, community education events, and planning individual and/or group workshops for on-reserve membership.
Advocate and act as a liaison.
Organize workshops for on-reserve, and/or provide training as identified.
Assets
Knowledge of Indigenous Worldviews, Truth and Reconciliation, and residential school history.
Knowledge of Trauma Informed training and Trauma-informed care.
Knowledge of family-centered strength-based practices and traditional parenting.
Experience with home visitation and working on-reserve or with First Nation organizations.
Qualifications
Relevant or equivalent educational classes
Knowledge of diabetes causes, prevention, challenges and opportunities specific to the communities served.
Knowledge of health services program management principles, practices, techniques and tools.
Valid Class 5 drivers license
Current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector.
Ability to speak Cree would be an asset
Must be able to work overtime and/or weekends if necessary
This position is based on full time hours, with a typical schedule of Monday-Friday 9am-4pm.
