Job Information
The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) is seeking an experienced and passionate Supervisor, Recreation Therapy to lead therapeutic recreation services within Yellowknife Long Term Care (LTC) and Stanton Territorial Hospital (STH). This position plays a key leadership role in enhancing the quality of life, health, and well-being of residents and patients through innovative recreation therapy programs, clinical leadership, and volunteer program development
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise day-to-day operations and clinical practices of Recreation Therapy staff.
- Lead recruitment, orientation, performance management, and staff development.
- Monitor service quality and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop and maintain recreation therapy standards, guidelines, and best practices.
- Design, implement, and oversee a comprehensive volunteer program for Long Term Care.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to support patient-centered care.
- Provide direct recreation therapy services during staffing shortages or leaves.
- Support culturally safe care and explore opportunities to integrate Indigenous wellness initiatives into programming.
Key Qualifications
- A bachelors degree in Recreation Therapy; And
- Five (5) years of clinical experience.
- Previous Supervisory experience would be an asset.
Additional requirements
- Certification and membership (within 12 months of hire) with the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation (NCTRC) as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).
- Must be a Professional member of the Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA)

Salary Information
The salary range for this position is from $54.44 per hour to $65.03 per hour (approximately $106,158 - $126,809.) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,700.
