Duties
Reporting to the Section Manager of the Habitat & Endangered Species Section, the incumbent is responsible for the leadership, development and management of the Land Stewardship Unit programs including oversight of the Wildlife Management Area program, the agro-Manitoba prairie program, and development, integration and supervision of habitat and land stewardship and conservation initiatives on private and crown land. This encompasses developing and coordinating habitat monitoring programs, and assessment of at-risk habitats to inform site management planning, stewardship priorities, permitting decisions, and policy development. The incumbent represents the branch on departmental, provincial, national and international committees or working groups related to land stewardship and is responsible for maintaining effective relationships with a variety of government and non-government agencies and stakeholders. The incumbent also participates in development of policy and priorities for the section and implementation of budget and staffing strategies to ensure delivery of section objectives.

Qualifications
Essential
A Masters degree in bioscience, natural resource management, land use planning, or agriculture, or related discipline supplemented by several years of pertinent experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge of, and experience with, habitat and land management trends and agricultural practices and their effects on wildlife habitat.
Knowledge and understanding of game management and SAR issues in Manitoba and land conservation planning, field inventory procedures, and ecological and wildlife management principles.
Interpersonal skills
an ability to develop and maintain effective co-operative working relationships with a variety of groups.
Ability to initiate and complete projects.
Superior organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Superior budgeting skills and experience.
Strong written communication skills and experience in drafting documents for a variety of audiences including funding proposals, reports, recommendations, policy and legislation.
Experience in developing and maintaining effective cooperative working relationships with diverse groups including government and non-government agencies, agriculture-based organizations, Indigenous groups, stakeholders and the public.
Desired
Experience in science communication and adjusting communication style to address government, communities, Indigenous organizations, non-government organizations, resource user groups and the general public.
Experience in training or mentoring scientific and technical personnel.
Conditions of Employment
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Must be physically able to undertake the duties of the position, including conducting field work in rough terrain and on water.
Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba Class 5 driver's licence (or equivalent).
Must be able to work evenings, weekends and overtime as required.
Some overnight travel in the province may be required.
