About the Position:

The Language Lead supervises and supports the Language Program. This position specifically assists the Regional Manager in supporting and leading Language Instructors, Teaching Assistants, Program Assistants, and Child Minders. 

Reports to: Regional Manager

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Coaches, trains and evaluates language staff to achieve program outcomes
  • Provides orientation to language instructors
  • Provides Portfolio-Based Language Assessment (PBLA)orientation to new students 
  • Supports curriculum delivery and activities with Language Instructors 
  • Supports monthly unit summaries from instructors ensuring Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB)level appropriateness 
  • Recommends and facilitates professional development opportunities for staff to the Regional Manager
  • Assists in developing language curriculum and resources
  • Resolves disputes or conflicts from or among students and/or clients, instructors and/or staff and seeks additional assistance from the Regional Manager if needed 
  • Ensures ongoing adherence to health authority licensing standards for childminding services 
  • Works with the Regional Manager to interview and select applicants for language instructor positions 
  • Communicates client needs and issues to the Regional Manager
  • Leads onsite program evaluation, including creating evaluation materials such as surveys
  • Synchronizes outreach efforts with other Language Leads
  • Works in collaboration with Settlement Coordinators and other S.U.C.C.E.S.S. services to fulfill students’ needs and assist students in deciding service options 
  • Contributes to and support the collation and writing of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Regional Manager  

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education 
  • TESL Canada 2 certificate or equivalent certification
  • Minimum of 3years’ teaching experience in Canada 
  • Minimum of 3years’ adult teaching experience 
  • Minimum of 1 year supervisory/management experience
  • Experience in settlement/adaptation services
  • Experience in the social services industry
  • Experience with multicultural clientele and immigrant related services
  • Knowledge of community resources for newcomers to Canada
  • Knowledge of intercultural and social issues
  • Knowledge of CLB-based language programs (ELSA/LINC)
  • Knowledge of the iCARE system 

Job Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 
  • Additional languages are considered an asset 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent technical skills in MS Office and web-based applications
  • Excellent program planning, time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently

Other Requirements:

  • Criminal Record Check Required 
  • Able to work evenings and weekends as required
  • Able to work at multiple locations in Greater Vancouver
