Welder

Reporting to the Fabrication Planner and Supervisor, the Welder is responsible for welding and fabricating mining cutting products and components to meet established quality and production standards.

Primary Responsibilities

Perform MIG welding and fabrication of mining products and components according to drawings, specifications, and work instructions.

Read and interpret drawings, welding symbols, and work instructions.

Inspect completed welds and fabricated components to ensure they meet quality specifications.

Prepare materials and components for welding, including fitting, grinding, cutting, and cleaning.

Monitor welding processes and make adjustments as required to maintain quality and productivity.

Use hand tools, power tools, measuring equipment, and other shop equipment as required.

Identify and troubleshoot welding or fabrication issues and communicate discrepancies to management.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

Perform required preventative maintenance on welding and associated equipment.

Work collaboratively with team members to meet production schedules and improve processes.

Complete production documentation and records as required.

Physical requirements

Ability to lift 50 lbs.

Prolonged standing throughout the day

Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity

Ability to work in a shop/manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

Minimum 2nd-year welding apprentice, or equivalent welding experience.

Experience with multi-pass welding in thick plate fabrication.

Experience with carbon air arc gouging.

Previous experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, machine shop, construction, or industrial environment is an asset.

Experience with MIG and/or stick welding; other welding processes are an asset.

Previous experience welding or repairing mining equipment is an asset.

Previous experience with hardfacing or wear-resistant materials is an asset.
