About this role
This position reports to the Waterworks Managers and offers an opportunity to build a long-term career in the City's Water and Wastewater Department. No previous water or wastewater experience is required hands-on training and mentorship will be provided to help you develop the skills needed to become a qualified operator.
You will work alongside experienced operators and gradually take on more responsibility as your skills develop. We are looking for reliable, motivated individuals who are willing to learn and grow.
What Youll Learn and Do
Youll work alongside certified operators and managers to learn the daily operation and maintenance of the Citys Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants. Your responsibilities will grow as your skills grow, including:
- Plant operations - learning how to run treatment processes, equipment, and systems
- Sampling & monitoring - collecting and analyzing water and wastewater samples
- System maintenance - supporting distribution, collection, and infrastructure upkeep
- Utility service tasks - meter services, crossconnection control, and residential supply support
- Technical skill development - learning computer systems, safety procedures, and operational tools
Training and responsibilities will increase as the successful candidate develops the required knowledge, skills, and competencies.
The successful candidate must be willing and able to work rotational, non-standard hours, including shift work, nights, evenings, and weekends, as well as stand-by and callouts.
