About this role
NorSask Forest Products is a 3-line stud lumber sawmill with operational capacity in excess of 140,000 Mfbm. We operate one of the largest sawmills in Saskatchewan. We produce high-quality SPF (spruce, pine, fir) stud lumber sold in Canada, the United States and overseas.
Responsibilities
Participate in safety meetings and activities as determined by team and mill norms and standards.
Sharpening, tipping and benching round saws.
Honing and maintaining knives.
Pour babbit, maintenance of guides and maintaining guide plane.
Complete PMs for sawmill and filing room machinery as required.
Participate in reliability task teams or activities as required.
Help coach apprentices/operators to learn saw filing trade.
Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED (or higher).
A minimum of 3 years saw filing experience in a sawmill environment.
Experience in safe work practices related to saw filing.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Applicants must be qualified in fitting round saws.
Experience with filing shop equipment calibration and maintenance.
Candidate must have working knowledge of hard tipped welding (alloy) and carbide plus stellite tipping.
Have experience in tensioning and leveling round saws.
Basic understanding of planned / preventive maintenance process.
Understand internal quality control and machine alignment procedures.
Have strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to effectively work with others while implementing process changes in a rapid-pace work environment.
Consistently demonstrate a strong commitment to safety values.
Produce quality work product and capacity to adapt to and learn new technology.
