Parks Technician I

Duties & Responsibilities

Clean various indoor and outdoor facilities including the Kinsmen Arena, Cemetery Shop, Parks Shop, and other parks related structures including the grounds around them;

Clear snow from parking lots, facility access points, pathways, outdoor rinks and other facilities;

Provide inspections and minor maintenance in Kinsmen Arena and to the sports field, tennis courts, outdoor ice surfaces, play structures, skate park, basketball nets and other man-made outdoor rec facilities;

Install and maintain ice at the Kinsmen Arena and outdoor ice surfaces;

Monitor building systems and record systems checks at the Kinsmen Arena;

Clear snow on Cemetery roads and ensure access to plots for digs and services;

Provide interment services including preparing plots for burial and ensure safe closing of burial plots;

Safe operation of backhoe to support burials;

Maintain grass and implement an integrated pest management program, including weed, insect and rodent control, in parks and outdoor spaces;

Operate and provide minor maintenance for riding mowers, push mowers and whips;

Maintain irrigation systems;

Apply fertilizer and complete aeration as required;

Empty garbages and ensure garbage is removed from the ground;

Maintain the urban forest including responding to tree inquiries, providing tree assessments and appraisals, grinding stumps and roots, pruning and/or removing street and park trees;

Maintain and update the Urban Forestry inventory system;

Qualifications

Grade 12;

Having one of the following would be considered an asset: Refrigeration Operators License (ticket), Landscape, Structural, or Biting Fly Pesticide Applicator;

Possess and maintain a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 drivers license;

Must possess and maintain RCMP security clearance;

Problem solving;

Knowledge of equipment maintenance & operation;

Work with minimal supervision;
