Job description: The Public Health Nurse Specialist as a member of the Population Health Unit (PHU) team consults and works closely with the Medical Health Officers. They also work with other Public Health Nurse Specialists and PHU team members; managers of public health and health promotion within the Saskatchewan Health Authority and Athabasca Health Authority; and the Ministry of Health. Their duties also entail consultation and collaboration with northern First Nations and Metis partners and intersectoral work with governmental and non-governmental agencies as required. They work with stakeholders to support the planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence-based public health programs and policies by providing expert leadership, guidance and consultation in specific areas. Their primary areas of focus are immunization, maternal-child health, school health, chronic disease and injury prevention, travel health and population health promotion programs.
The incumbent is responsible for communicable disease control policy and program development and implementation and for communicable disease health status surveillance and reporting within the former Keewatin Yatth Health Region, the former Mamawetan Churchill River Health Region, and the Athabasca region.
