Job Description: The Nurse Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence (NSWOC) provides specialized nursing services to patients who may have developed or have a disorder in the genitourinary, gastrointestinal, and/or integumentary systems. They provide specialized holistic assessment and management as an inter-professional team member and participate in professional development, research activities, knowledge translation, and system-level thinking. They provide counselling and education for patients, both independently and in collaboration with the health care team. In consultation with physicians, community counterparts and other health care professionals, they use best practice and guidelines developed by Canadian Association of Enterostomal Therapist and World Ostomy Association to ensure patients are accessing appropriate care to achieve the desired outcomes. The NSWOC integrates skills and knowledge from nursing theory and principles of adult learning in the provision of direct client care, clinical consultation, clinical coordination, clinical problems solving skills, education and research.
