About this role
Full-Time 3 month term, with the possibility of extension or becoming permanent. If moved to permanent, the successful candidate will receive access to an excellent benefits and pension plan.
Develop effective working relationships with all staff and program participants to ensure a respectful and positive work environment is achieved.
Manually sort recoverable materials e.g. metal, paper, plastic from waste.
Working Conditions
Environment exposes workers to motion of conveyor belt and large industrial machinery
Environment may expose workers to extreme heat/cold, paper dust, chemicals, diesel fumes, unusual/strong odors and/or contaminated materials/products; pet rabbits, birds and fish; visiting therapy animals e.g. dogs
Personal protective equipment required for various activities/tasks e.g. steel-toed boots, safety glasses/goggles, safety vest, hearing protection etc.
May be required to work flexible work hours/days; shift work as scheduled
Identify and sort recyclable materials by grade.
Identify outbound recycling materials that are acceptable for sale.
Monitor quality of sorted materials; report concerns.
Develop effective working relationships with all staff and program participants to ensure a respectful and positive work environment is achieved.
Supervise program participants working on the sort belt.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Participate as an active team member (communication, coverage during staff shortages etc.).
Cross-train for other duties as deemed necessary.
Other duties as assigned.
Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check prior to employment.
Education
Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent.
Qualifications
Ability to differentiate between various materials and grades of product quickly and efficiently.
