Job Purpose
Under the direction of the Director of Settlement and Family Services and Unit Team Leads, the Legal Literacy and Justice Navigation Counsellor is responsible for delivering the legal literacy and support for newcomers end to end. This position equips newcomers in Saskatoon with practical knowledge of employment, family tenancy, and improves their ability to navigate Saskatchewans legal systems, while also building internal SODS staff capacity to identify legal issues earlier. This position is frequently expected to provide service with interpretation support for clients whose first language is not English, and to coordinate across different units in the organization.
Education and Experience
Bachelors degree in social sciences, social work, education, psychology, or a related filed, and one year of work experience providing legal navigation, settlement or counselling services. Understanding of the Canadian Legal framework will be an advantage. OR
Post secondary education in the social science, humanities, or paralegal studies and two years work experience providing legal navigation or settlement counselling services, OR
Working knowledge of Saskatchewan employment, tenancy, family violence, and small business is a strong asset.
Experience using legal research databases such as Westlaw or Lexis Advance is an asset.
Strong computer skills are desired for client work, reporting, communication, developing presentation materials, and facilitating workshops.
Experience facilitating group sessions, delivering presentations, and demonstrating strong communication skills.
