Land Base Instructor (Certified Teacher)

Mikhoskiwakk Nhiyawak Education Authority seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Land-Based Instructor to join our education team. The successful candidate will support meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that connect students to the land, culture, language, traditional knowledge, and community. The Land-Based Instructor will work collaboratively with school administration, teachers, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, community members, and students to develop and deliver culturally relevant land-based programming throughout the school year and summer.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Land-Based Instructor will supervise two Land-Based Coordinators (John William Head Memorial Education Centre and Mamawe Awasis Elementary School) and provide leadership in the planning, coordination, organization, and delivery of culturally relevant land-based learning opportunities that support student engagement, traditional knowledge, and experiential learning.

Provide hands-on instruction in traditional and seasonal activities such as hunting, fishing, trapping, harvesting, medicine gathering, gardening, food preparation, outdoor survival, camping, and other land-based skills.

Incorporate Red Earth Cree culture, traditions, values, language, protocols, and ways of knowing into programming.

Support teachers and land-based workers in connecting land-based activities with classroom learning and Saskatchewan curriculum outcomes.

Develop age-appropriate activities for students across different grade levels.

Complete activity plans, attendance records, reports, and other required documentation.

Maintain and monitor land-based equipment, materials, and supplies.

Organize the transportation, preparation, setup, and cleanup for land-based activities.

Promote student participation, confidence in Cree identity, cultural pride, leadership, wellness, healthy lifestyles, teamwork, and overall well-being through meaningful land-based learning experiences.
