Primary Purpose
The Head Curator provides leadership for the strategic development, implementation and evaluation of curatorial programs at the MacKenzie Art Gallery. The Head Curator leads the MacKenzie Art Gallerys curatorial team and contributes to curatorial initiatives, which include exhibitions, collections, and publications. The Head Curator collaborates with the senior management team to develop long-range goals and objectives, ensuring that curatorial initiatives align with the Gallerys Strategic Plan and Artistic Vision. In collaboration with the Director of Programs and the CEO, the Head Curator will develop and implement best practices for all curatorial activities at the gallery. The Head Curator will have an outstanding track record of work within our ecosystem, reflected in their relationships with artists, collectors, educators, curatorial peers, and the communities in which they do their work. They approach exhibition-making and publications with curiosity, considering the intersecting audiences served by the gallery.
Nature of work
Working in a collaborative environment and reporting to the Director of Programs, this position leads and manages the curatorial department team. The team and reports they are responsible for will change with the organization, but will typically include 3-5 curators and administrative assistants. This position works collaboratively with other departments, staff, volunteers, and partners.
