About this role
MGBHLM First Nation is looking for a Full-Time Cook. Under the direction of the Principal, the School Cook is responsible for planning, preparing, and serving nutritious breakfasts, lunches, and snacks to all students at Mosquito School. The School Cook is also responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen while ensuring compliance with food safety regulations and school policies.
Duties and Responsibilities
Food Preparation and Nutrition
- Prepare and serve healthy breakfasts, lunches, and snacks for all students.
- Plan balanced meals that align with the Canada Food Guide and promote healthy eating habits.
- Develop and maintain a monthly menu schedule outlining daily meal selections.
- Ensure meals are prepared and served in a timely, safe, and respectful manner.
- Keep shelf-stable snack items readily available for students and classrooms as needed.
Food Safety and Kitchen Operations
- Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized kitchen at all times.
- Observe all fire safety procedures and emergency protocols.
- Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while handling food.
- Obtain and maintain a valid Safe Food Handler Certificate.
- Wash, sanitize, and properly store all dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment after each meal service.
- Sweep, mop, sanitize, and disinfect all kitchen floors, counters, workspaces, and food preparation areas daily.
- Remove garbage regularly and flatten cardboard boxes before placing them in recycling or disposal bins.
Inventory and Ordering
- Complete weekly kitchen inventory checks and identify food and supply needs.
- Prepare and maintain weekly or bi-weekly food orders with the approved food supplier.
