Casual Library Assistant

Responsible for providing full library services to the community they serve under the guidance of the branch librarian. Regular duties include working professionally with patrons and other library staff. Shelving, sorting books, pulling holds, tracking stats, assisting patrons to locate or order books. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or equivalent
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and multitasking skills
• Computer skills including Microsoft Office and internet searching
• Familiarity with Chinook Regional Library website and circulation system is an asset
• Understanding and appreciation of the goals of public library service to people of different ages and cultural backgrounds
• Able to stand for periods of time, to bend and shelve books, to move library furniture as needed, to lift boxes of books up to 15 kg
• Able to work with minimum supervision
• Experience working with children and vulnerable populations
• A current Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check is required as a condition of employment
• Valid First Aid and CPR certification is considered an asset
