Bylaw and Animal Control Officer

The City of Warman is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the full-time position of Bylaw and Animal Control Officer. Reporting to the Director of Planning and Development, the Bylaw and Animal Control Officer supports a safe, respectful, and well-maintained municipality by administering, educating on, and enforcing municipal bylaws, policies, and applicable provincial legislation, including matters related to animal control.

This position responds to public inquiries and complaints, conducts patrols and inspections, promotes voluntary compliance where appropriate, issues notices, orders, tickets, and penalties when required, maintains accurate records, and represents the municipality in enforcement proceedings.

Qualifications

Minimum of Grade 12 with a certificate, diploma or a degree in relevant field required

Minimum of three years working experience in law enforcement and animal control or an associated field.  Previous kennel or animal care and control experience will be considered an asset.

Strong working knowledge of the provincial court system required

An understanding of regulatory by-laws, legislation, policies, procedures and rules

Some knowledge in recognizing different breeds of dogs and cats, as well as various different species of exotic animals including basic care requirements preferred

Ability to recognize signs and symptoms of disease and to handle dangerous and/or injured animals with a minimum of personal risk

A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills. Able to deal effectively with people in difficult situations

Computer literate, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel and Outlook

Valid Standard First Aid and CPR certificates

Valid drivers license with a clean abstract
