The Ministry is seeking a motivated Equipment Operator for the Findlater Section within the Operations and Maintenance Division. The ideal candidate is accountable, adaptable, collaborative and committed to public service excellence. They demonstrate initiative, value diverse perspectives, work effectively with others and contribute to organizational goals while supporting safe and efficient operations.
Candidates must possess a valid Class 1A drivers licence and be able to provide a current driver abstract upon request. The successful candidate will have knowledge of the operation, maintenance and servicing of heavy equipment, including motor graders, tandem trucks and loaders. Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, fuel and lubrication systems is required, along with an understanding of workplace safety, traffic control procedures, occupational health requirements, hazardous materials and dangerous goods practices.
Strong communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills are essential. The role requires sound judgment, basic digital skills, the ability to adapt to changing conditions, and a commitment to health, safety and wellness. Experience operating heavy equipment and working in road maintenance environments is an asset.
Responsibilities include coordinating daily crew activities, assigning work, monitoring equipment use, operating and maintaining heavy equipment, performing highway maintenance and snow and ice control activities, and maintaining operational records and equipment logs.
