The Ministry of Highways is seeking an organized and motivated Equipment Operator to join the Pavement Marking/Provincial Signs Crew in Swift Current. This seasonal position supports Saskatchewan's transportation network through pavement marking, sign installation, highway maintenance, and safety operations. The role involves extensive regional travel, including overnight stays of up to five days per week, with seasonal layoff and recall.
The ideal candidate is reliable, adaptable, safety-focused, and able to work independently and as part of a team. They communicate professionally with coworkers, contractors, and the public, remain calm in challenging situations, and can manage competing priorities in changing weather and operating conditions. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to service excellence are essential.
Candidates should have knowledge of equipment operation, maintenance procedures, and the safe use of hand and power tools. They must be able to troubleshoot issues, perform minor equipment repairs, maintain accurate records, use electronic systems, and safely operate equipment in adverse road and weather conditions. A valid Class 1A or Class 3A driver's licence is required.
Duties include operating highway maintenance equipment, performing pavement marking and sign installation activities, completing preventative maintenance, assisting with traffic control and work zone setup, monitoring safety risks, maintaining records, and supporting crew operations.
