Job Information
The Territorial Substance Use Nurse Specialist provides territorial support, including case management to clients across NTHSSA Regions and provides expert advice to the multidisciplinary team which includes community health and acute care providers.
The incumbent ensures individual client¿s needs are correctly assessed and appropriate interventions are planned. The incumbent provides direct nursing care to clients and acts as a patient advocate, facilitating communication between patient, families, the physician, specialists and other health care professionals. This will result in a holistic approach to planning, organizing, teaching and relationship development that will best meet the needs of the client. The incumbent is expected to remain calm, controlled, and professional regardless of the situation and demonstrate compassionate care to the client, family and other members of the health care team.
Often clients within the program are experiencing complex social needs including incarceration, addiction, homelessness, systemic trauma, chronic illness, and limited social supports.
Key Responsibilities
Provide specialized direct nursing care to clients who are experiencing a substance use disorder using a collaborative approach to protect, prevent and improve client outcomes; promote a healthy lifestyle and wellness; and decrease suffering.
Provide comprehensive clinical case management for substance use clients, allowing clients the opportunity to maximize independence and overall wellness.
Plan, facilitate and implement health programs and system education designed to promote client health and wellness and to improve client and system knowledge of substance use harms and treatment.
Assess system needs within NTHSSA Regions, TCSA and HRHSSA and make recommendations on system gaps and quality improvements.
Advocate for practice and work environments that have the organization and resource allocations necessary for safe, competent and ethical nursing care.
Provides services that are continuous in all phases of mental health and/or alcohol and drug services care and support.
Key Qualifications
The successful completion of a Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing Degree and a minimum of three (3) years¿ experience working in the field of mental health and/or addictions.
Must be eligible for College and Association of Nurses (CANNN) Registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse.

Salary Information
The salary range for this position is from $54.44 per hour to $65.03 per hour (approximately $106,158 - $126,809 annually.) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,700.
