The Department of Executive and Indigenous Affairs works to provide overall management and direction to the Executive branch of the Government of the Northwest Territories. The Department is responsible for: coordinating and supporting the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of initiatives and actions in support of cross-government goals The Department is responsible for ensuring mutually respectful intergovernmental relations between the territorial government and Aboriginal, provincial, territorial and national and international governments are maintained; along with negotiating and implementing land, resources And self-government agreements that address Aboriginal rights in the Northwest Territories.
Job Information
The Senior Media Relations and Cabinet Communications Officer is responsible for managing the delivery of Cabinet Communications and media relations activities, providing communications expertise, leadership, and coordination in support of Executive Council priorities.
The position ensures effective planning, development and dissemination of public communications, supports response to emerging issues and media inquiries, and contributes to informed public understanding of government decisions, priorities, and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Manage Cabinet Communications projects, approvals and tracking.
Coordinate strategic communications activities and support communications planning.
Manages all Cabinet media requests.
Manage the release process for GNWT public communications.
Manage the coordination of Cabinet media relations, issues management, social media, monitoring and reporting.
Manage weekly GNWT Directors of Communications meetings.
Lead the production of Cabinet communications materials.
Advance the priorities of the GNWT by modeling public service excellence, fostering public trust, and committing to continuous self-reflection and whole-person development.
Key Qualifications
A Diploma in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Public Administration or Office Administration, and three (3) years of relevant experience.
Equivalencies
A degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Public Administration or Office Administration, and one (1) year of relevant experience; or a related certificate and four (4) years of relevant experience.
All other equivalencies will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
