The mandate of the Department of Justice is to administer justice, including policing, community justice, victims services and corrections in the Northwest Territories. This mandate will be carried out in a manner which respects community and indigenous values and encourages communities to assume increasing responsibilities.
Job Information
The Department of Justice is seeking a Probation Officer to provide community-based supervision, case management, and rehabilitative services to adult and youth offenders throughout the South Slave Region. This position works closely with community agencies, the courts, law enforcement, and correctional partners to promote offender accountability, community safety, restorative justice, and successful reintegration.
As a Probation Officer, you will supervise offenders who are subject to court-ordered sanctions and conditional releases, conduct risk and needs assessments, prepare court reports, and develop case management plans designed to address offending behaviour and support rehabilitation. You will also act as an Officer of the Court and Peace Officer as prescribed by legislation.
Supervising adult and youth offenders in the community and monitoring compliance with court orders.
Preparing assessments and reports for the courts and Correctional Service Canada.
Conducting interviews and gathering information from offenders, families, employers, service providers, and other collateral contacts.
Developing and implementing case management and reintegration plans.
Referring offenders to community supports, treatment programs, and rehabilitative services.
Collaborating with justice, health, social services, and community partners to support offender rehabilitation and public safety.
Delivering and supporting community-based programming and initiatives.
Typically, the qualifications required would be;
A Diploma in a Social Science-related field combined with two (2) years of current case management experience in the Corrections or Social Services field. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
