Job Information
The HEMO is located in Yellowknife and reports to the Director, Emergency Management. Serving all thirty-three communities in the Northwest Territories (NWT), the position ensures timely and efficient response to and recovery from emergencies; develops strategies to reduce the potential for future damage and injury; and builds resilience to help individuals, communities, and organizations adapt to and recover from disasters. The position directs the GNWT's Emergency Measures Organization (EMO) in accordance with the Emergency Management Act (the Act) and NWT Emergency Plan (the Plan).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
:
Knowledge in emergency management, emergency planning, and disaster response and recovery;
Knowledge of relevant Acts, agreements, frameworks, strategies, and policies as they related to emergency management;
Knowledge of the Incident Command System in the context of emergency management;
Ability to demonstrate leadership qualities in highly stressful situations; making decisions quickly and decisively; often with limited information. During emergencies, circumstances change rapidly resulting in a necessity to adjust plans accordingly and be able to consider all the alternatives;
Ability to manage a diverse team of professionals which may be periodically called upon to respond to emergency events;
Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:
A bachelor's degree in emergency management, and five years of relevant experience including one-year supervisory experience.

Salary Information
The salary range for this position is from $65.25 per hour to $77.95 per hour (approximately $127,238 - $152,003) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,700.
