This includes promoting, planning, and supporting the wise and sustainable use of natural resources, and protecting, restoring, and stewarding the environment for the social and economic benefit of all Northwest Territories residents.

Job Information

Located in Inuvik and reporting to the Land Use Advisor, the Assistant Land Use Administrator is a support position for the Land Use Advisor.

The Assistant Land Use Administrator conducts preliminary screenings for all land use applications accepted by the Department, within specified legislative time frames. These screenings are broad ranging and multi-disciplinary and usually associated with the oil and gas exploration, mining, forestry, construction, outfitting and tourism activities.

The Assistant Land Use Administrator is required to interpret and prepare of maps often with differing scales, unique legends, and varied mapping methods, that will accompany land use

applications or amendments, for distribution to other interested parties so as to provide the most accurate representation of the proposed activity to allow them to adequately review and

interpret the information.

The Assistant Land Use Administrator coordinates communication between clients and regional staff to obtain agreement on acceptable practices, of terms and conditions and of

interpretations of regional guidelines. Complex issues and conflicts arise when dealing with a variety of groups who are providing input into or recommendations for the conditions annexed

to various land use permits.

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:

Completion of a diploma in a related field such as Administration, Geography, Planning or Survey Science with a demonstrated proficiency, plus one (1) year of relevant experience.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

The salary for this position starts at $42.17 per hour (approximately $82,231.00 per annum) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $14,304.00
