The Department of Housing, Addictions and Homelessness is seeking qualified candidates to fill a Maintenance Tradesperson / Painter position in Winnipeg. The Painter position supports the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of provincially owned properties and other district buildings. The position requires a qualified journeyperson who demonstrates technical expertise, sound judgment, and professionalism while working independently or collaboratively to maintain critical building repairs.

Duties
Under the direction of the Supervisor, or designate, the incumbent performs painting and maintenance services in owner facilities to include but not limited to: painting; surface finishes; mixing paint; using brushes, roller or spray equipment; performs inspection and preparing scopes of work for maintenance and repairs. May be required to assist contractors, trades helpers or other designated persons. This position does not possess supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications
Essential
Journeyperson experience in painting & decorating
Professional experience in paint and coating application for various interior and exterior surfaces as it applies to residential and commercial buildings
Professional experience in the preparation of large surfaces for painting & coating, including drywall repair, patching, mudding, taping & sanding
Professional experience preparing accurate estimates for work orders and materials
Knowledge of Workplace Safety and Health Act, safety policies, safe work procedures
Strong interpersonal and client service skills. Must be able to work with a diverse client group with the ability to deal effectively with tenant and the public
Excellent organization and time management skills
Excellent verbal communication skills
Desired
Requires strong mental and emotional resilience in dealing with Manitoba’s most vulnerable and underprivileged communities
Ability to communicate in French both written and verbal
Conditions of Employment
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Must be able to provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Records Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search, Adult and Child Abuse Registry Checks
Must possess and maintain a valid Full Class 5 Manitoba driver’s licence and access to a vehicle
Valid certificate of qualification as journeyperson Painter and Decorator
Must be physically able to perform the duties of the position. This includes the ability to use ladders, working at heights, work in confined spaces, work in dusty and extreme heat/cold conditions, lifting up to 50 lbs, kneeling, standing, crawling, sitting and standing for extended periods of time. Must be able to wear PPE to perform the work.
