Duties
The Head, Park System Planning and Ecology provides senior leadership in park planning and policy development for Manitoba’s provincial park system. The role leads initiatives related to the establishment of new provincial parks, and park reserves, and updates to park classifications, land use categories, and park purpose statements. The position helps ensure provincial parks support outdoor recreation while conserving natural resources and protecting areas of geological, cultural, ecological, and scientific significance.
Qualifications
Essential
Post Secondary education in Natural Resources Management, Environmental Science, Landscape Planning, Conservation Biology, Ecosystem Management, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience leading and completing complex planning, policy, or project initiatives.
Experience developing and conducting engagement and consultation processes with the public, stakeholders, Indigenous communities, and other partners.
Experience building and maintaining effective relationships with Indigenous communities and local stakeholders.
Experience preparing and reviewing a variety of planning and policy documents, including protected areas proposals, feasibility studies, management plans, reports, recommendations, policies, and legislation.
Experience using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), including the application of GIS concepts and tools to support planning and decision-making.
Experience providing strategic advice and recommendations on planning, conservation, and resource management issues.
Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex technical and planning information to a variety of audiences.
Excellent written communication skills with the ability to prepare complex reports.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a complex planning environment.
Conditions of Employment
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba Class 5 Driver's Licence without restrictions.
Compensation Details
KP3 $79,889.00 - $99,331.00 per year
