As a member of the department’s executive management team, the Assistant Deputy Minister is responsible to lead and manage the division, provide advice and support to the Deputy Minister, and contribute to achieving the goals of government through cross-department initiatives.
The department of Manitoba Innovation and New Technology (MINT) is responsible for fostering innovation for Manitoba citizens and businesses and manages Manitoba's Information and Communications Technologies to enable modern service delivery.
The Innovation Division has a three-point mandate to foster innovation in business and industry, develop Manitoba’s strong tech sector, and promote innovation across the public sector.
The Division grows Manitoba’s knowledge economy with policy, programs, legislation, and regulation for new technology development and adoption, research and commercialization, entrepreneurship from startup through scale-up, intellectual property development and protection, and data stewardship. The Division works with other branches of the department and other levels of government to advance access to broadband connectivity and develop digital literacy in the workforce.
The Division leads government support and programming for the technology sector focusing on workforce development, economic development, and industry attraction.
The Division promotes innovation across the public sector with a focus on applications of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, analytics and open data to improve the services that Manitobans rely on.
