The First Nations, Métis and Inuit Division provides strategic direction and supports to improve education outcomes for First Nations, Métis and Inuit students in Alberta. The Division works collaboratively with First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities and organizations, education authorities, parents, communities and other partners to strengthen relationships, coordinate priorities, and support responsive programs and services. The Partnerships and Research Sector advances this work by leading strategic and operational initiatives with Indigenous partners and education system partners, and by supporting research, analysis, knowledge mobilization and emergency management.

Role Responsibilities
Reporting to the Executive Director, Partnerships and Research Sector, the Director, Stakeholder Relations provides strategic leadership for a diverse portfolio that advances First Nations, Métis and Inuit education in Alberta. The Director leads stakeholder engagement and strategic partnerships; oversees formal agreements, funding programs and supports for First Nations Education Authorities. The position also leads ministry emergency management and business continuity activities, guides a high-performing team and works across government and with education authorities, Indigenous organizations, post-secondary institutions and other partners to strengthen relationships, deliver responsive programs and improve education outcomes for First Nations, Metis and Inuit students.
This position works collaboratively with divisions across the Ministry and Ministries within the Government of Alberta, First Nations Education Authorities, provincial school authorities, Indigenous organizations and other partners to advance responsive programs, strengthen relationships and support improved education outcomes for Indigenous students in Alberta.
The Director is accountable for the following key responsibilities:

Stakeholder Relationships
Build and maintain effective relationships with First Nations and Métis communities, Indigenous organizations, school authorities, provincial and federal partners and other key stakeholders.

Strategic Partnerships
Develop partnerships with external stakeholders, school authorities, post-secondary institutions and Indigenous groups to support Indigenous student success.
- ��
Support to First Nations Education Authorities
Provide operational support and guidance to First Nations Education Authorities on provincial requirements, school program declarations, legislation, regulations and policy.
- ��
Indigenous Education Programs and Supports
Ensure programs and supports are responsive to the needs of First Nations, Métis and Inuit students and aligned with Ministry priority.
- ��
Emergency Management and Business Continuity
Lead ministry emergency management planning, business continuity activities, readiness exercises, partner coordination and strategic decision support
- ��
Strategic Sector Leadership
Provide executive leadership for the Partnerships and Research Sector to support Ministry business goals, operational priorities and divisional outcomes

Operational Planning and Delivery
Lead the development and execution of operational plans related to formal agreements, funding programs and stakeholder engagement.

Formal Agreements and Implementation
Oversee work related to protocols, relationship agreements, framework agreements, memoranda of understanding and related implementation activities.

Policy Advice and Strategic Planning
Provide policy advice, briefing materials, recommendations and strategic planning support on a broad range of First Nations, Métis and Inuit education issues.

Team Leadership and Performance
Guide, coach and support unit staff while promoting accountability, collaboration, continual improvement and outcomes aligned with Government of Alberta values.

Qualifications
University graduation in a field related to the position assignment, supplemented by seven years progressively responsible leadership experience.
Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis. depending on the statutory or unique requirements of the position, specific qualifications may apply.
Required Skills
- �� Broad understanding of Indigenous issues, with demonstrated knowledge of First Nations, Métis and Inuit education matters and experience supporting initiatives that address these issues.
- �� Knowledge of Alberta’s education system and the ability to work within it in a manner that is respectful of First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples.
- �� Knowledge of challenges and promising practices in the provision of education for First Nations, Metis and Inuit students
- �� Knowledge of Indigenous communities and organizations, including political and administrative structures and historical, social and cultural perspectives.
- �� Knowledge of provincial and federal priorities, policies and intergovernmental/jurisdictional considerations relevant to First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples.
- �� Experience developing strategic advice, briefing materials, recommendations and options for senior leaders on complex policy, program or stakeholder issues.
- �� Strong leadership, relationship management, negotiation and communication skills to support collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
Assets
- �� Experience supporting formal agreements, memoranda of understanding, relationship protocols or framework agreements with Indigenous partners and/or other external stakeholders.
- �� Experience with funding programs, grant administration, program accountability or performance measurement.
- �� Knowledge of emergency management, business continuity planning, readiness exercises or coordinated response and recovery activities.
- �� A Permanent Alberta Teaching Certificate.
- �� Experience as an educational leader/administrator.
- �� Experience leading within government decision-making frameworks, including business planning, budget and expenditure processes, human resource management, policy review and legislative development.
- �� Knowledge of government operations, policy development, program delivery and initiative implementation within Government of Alberta frameworks.

We are currently hiring for one full time, permanent position. Work hours are Monday to Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (36.25 hours/week).
