Diploma
Programs and Canadian Adult Education Credential Branch
The branch is responsible for the design, development, administration, scoring, and marking of all Grade 12 Mathematics, Science and Humanities diploma examinations and Canadian Adult Education Credential assessments. All diploma exams reflect the curriculum, and the questions meet rigorous statistical standards for reliability and validity. The branch involves classroom teachers in the development process, and they participate in marking students’ written responses in language arts, mathematics and social studies. As well, the branch provides support to classroom teachers and administrators on report interpretation.

Role Responsibilities

Join our team as Diploma Exam Lead, Français 30-2 and play a pivotal role in shaping provincial assessments that impact students across Alberta. In this dynamic role, you will lead the development and delivery of high-quality Français 30-2 diploma examinations, collaborate with educators and subject matter experts, and help ensure assessments are fair, valid, and aligned with curriculum outcomes. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Humanities, the Diploma Exam Lead, Français 30-2 is responsible for overseeing the design, development, scoring, and reporting of Alberta’s Français 30-2 diploma exams. This role requires written and oral mastery of the French and English languages, as well as subject matter expertise in minority Francophone Education contexts.
The responsibilities of the Diploma Exam Lead, Français 30-2 are as follows:
A
ssessment development and production
Produce high-quality, valid and reliable diploma exams to ensure fairness to students.
Assessment standards and blueprints
Develop and confirm assessment standards and blueprints that reflect the Program of Studies and Curriculum through collaboration with Ministry colleagues and consultation with clients, stakeholders, and partners.
Psychometric quality and fairness
Collaborate with psychometricians to ensure psychometric principles and guidelines are applied to field tests, diploma exams, development processes, and marking processes to support valid, reliable, and fair results for students.
Technical review and exam validation
Chair technical advisory committee meetings to scrutinize diploma exams prior to production and ensure they meet quality and validity expectations.
Document production, support materials, and special formats:
Collaborate with the Document Production Unit and Special Cases Unit to ensure field tests, diploma exams, support documents, and special-format materials meet standards for quality, format, language, and accessibility.
French translation and equivalency
Work with other diploma exam teams to ensure French translations and revisions are equivalent to English versions for mathematics, social studies, and science.
Written response marking and scoring
Develop and manage written response marking and scoring processes that ensure fairness to students and reliability and validity of results.
Collaboration and digital transition
Collaborate with other subject areas, assessment areas, sectors, and branches, support the transition of diploma exams to a digital format, and contribute to the evolution of provincial assessment programs.
Teacher engagement, results reporting, and assigned duties:
Recruit and train teachers in field test question construction, build teacher capacity in assessing curricular learning outcomes, ensure diploma exam data are accurate for results reviews and reporting, provide advice on interpreting diploma exam results, mentor or supervise an interchange participant when applicable, and perform duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Master’s Degree in a related field plus five years related experience or equivalent as described below.
Equivalency: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field plus seven years of related experience.
Must have a valid permanent Alberta Teaching Certificate
The position requires the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
Subject matter expertise in Français 30-2, French first-language curriculum, and minority Francophone education contexts to support the development of fair, valid, reliable, and curriculum-aligned diploma exams.
Advanced written and oral communication skills in French and English, with the ability to review, revise, and support the production of high-quality French-language exam materials, support documents, and resources.
Teaching and leadership experience at the school, school authority, jurisdictional, and/or provincial level, including experience working with teachers, committees, and education partners.
Advanced knowledge of large-scale assessment, assessment standards, blueprint development, written response marking, scoring processes, and current issues, trends, and research related to French language assessments.
Ability to apply assessment and psychometric principles in collaboration with psychometricians to support the quality, validity, reliability, and fairness of field tests, diploma exams, marking, and scoring processes.
Sound project management, collaboration, and digital skills to coordinate exam development, technical review, document production, reporting, stakeholder engagement, and the transition of assessment processes to digital platforms.
Assets
Experience participating in or leading provincial assessment development, marking and scoring, or formal assessment review processes.
Experience with AI and digital components (aligned with shift to digital platforms).

This is one (1) Temporary Full Time (2 Year) onsite position working full-time (36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday).
The position is based in Edmonton.
