Role Responsibilities
The Strategic Services Branch within the Ministry of Assisted Living and Social Services (ALSS) is seeking a skilled
Business Analyst
to support business intelligence, data analytics, and evidence-based decision-making across the Ministry.
As a Business Analyst, you will play a key role in advancing the ministry's Business Intelligence (BI) strategy. Working closely with business areas, technical teams, and external partners, you will support reporting and analytics initiatives and help ensure BI solutions meet organizational needs.
You will act as the bridge between business and technology, facilitating requirements gathering, change management, project planning, and solution implementation to deliver meaningful information that supports planning, operations, and strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Facilitate business analysis activities for reporting, analytics, and data warehouse initiatives.
Facilitate workshops and consultations to gather, analyze, and validate business requirements.
Develop business cases, project charters, project plans, and requirements documentation.
Collaborate with data architects, developers, and subject matter experts to translate business needs into effective BI solutions.
Coordinate testing activities, including user acceptance testing and solution validation.
Support projects by identifying risks, dependencies, and mitigation strategies.
Develop and implement change management, communication, and training plans.
Build strong relationships with business areas and stakeholders to promote the effective use of reporting and analytics tools.
Research emerging BI trends and identify opportunities to improve information management and decision-making.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
University graduation in a related field (e.g., Social Sciences, Business, Computer Science) plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience as a Business Analyst preferably related to BI; or equivalent as described below.
Experience in project management, change management, systems development and business intelligence/data warehouse methodologies.
Demonstrated expertise in Business Intelligence technologies, including advanced use of SQL and Power BI for data analysis and reporting.
Equivalency
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Notes
Hours of work: 36.25 hours per week, Monday – Friday.
Full-time, in-office position located in Edmonton, Alberta.
