About Our Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager of the Clean Transportation and Climate Change Division, the Clean Energy Strategist will be part of a passionate and dynamic team that supports the provincial government’s efforts to develop clean energy resources, reduce Nova Scotia’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, create jobs and transition to a low carbon economy.

Our work includes a focus on inclusive participation in low carbon solutions that increase equity and energy affordability for all Nova Scotians.

Our team works with a variety of clients and partners such as provincial departments (including the Office of L’nu Affairs and African Nova Scotian Affairs), the federal government, municipalities, African Nova Scotian communities, First Nation communities in Nova Scotia, and non-profit as well as private organizations.

Primary Accountabilities

This position will focus on programs and policy research and analysis to support low carbon policies, programs, and projects that mitigate climate change and benefit communities across the province, with an emphasis on clean transportation initiatives.

The Clean Energy Strategist will work collaboratively with all levels of government as well as communities across Nova Scotia to support the development and delivery of clean energy and GHG reduction initiatives and funding programs.

This position will manage program data, monitor project outcomes and perform analysis to support evaluation and decision making.  The Clean Energy Strategist will work across the Department to integrate efforts and enable analysis of key themes and trends, as well as share information and best practices.

Qualifications and Experience

To be successful within this role, you will have a bachelor’s degree in a related field (such as Environmental Science, Economics, Business etc.) and 3 years of related experience; or a master of resource and environmental management degree, or similar, plus 1 year of related experience. Related experience can include working in greenhouse gas mitigation, clean transportation, energy efficiency, renewable energy development or similar fields.

As the successful candidate, you will demonstrate knowledge of national and provincial energy policy context and the Province’s clean transportation, efficiency, electricity and climate change mitigation strategies and funding programs. You will have strong skills in program design and coordination, stakeholder relations, and public engagement.

In addition to the above you will:

  • have excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, presentation and consultation skills;
  • be able to engage effectively with senior decision makers;
  • be able to work independently and perform research and analysis; and
  • work well under pressure and provide fast turnaround when immediate results are required by senior decision makers.

Course work or experience in policy analysis and preparation of briefing materials is considered an asset.  An interest in climate policy is essential.

An equivalent combination of training, education and experience may also be considered.

Pay Grade:  PR 10 - PR 10  

Salary Range:  $2,121.77 - $2,588.45 Bi-Weekly
